World Travel Awards: Lisbon is elected the Best Destination City

The Portuguese capital won the prize of the best city in the world to visit at the gala of the World Travel Awards, which was held for the first time in Portugal.

In June Lisbon had already been voted Best Destination City in Europe and now manages to win this same prize, but worldwide and for the first time, confirming the Portuguese capital as a global tourist destination to take into account. Already last year had won as Best City Break in the World.

"The Portuguese capital is a reference for good practices in the reclassification of heritage, promotion of the destination, improvement of the cultural, gastronomic and tourist offer, and this is reflected in the distinctions we receive. The quality of life has increased exponentially in Lisbon and tourism is the great engine of this change, "said Vitor Costa, director general of the Tourism Association of Lisbon.

The final ceremony of this edition of the World Travel Awards - the world tourism awards - takes place at the Pátio da Galé, in Terreiro do Paço, and brings together some of the main figures of the sector, which is the year in which the WTA celebrates the 25th birthday.

This Grand Final is the last leg of the WTA Grand Tour 2018, which has already gone through Athens (Greece), Hong Kong (China), Ras Al Khaimah (United Arab Emirates), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Jamaica and Durban ), cities where the continental galas took place.
