The new Local Accommodation Law is now in force. The possibilities introduced by the creation of containment areas, the most powerful measure of the law, are many and are now in the hands of local authorities.
The question is: what will the local authorities do with this measure? The Lisbon Chamber has already made public the containment areas for the city: Bairro Alto / Madragoa and Castelo / Alfama / Mouraria. It is important to point out that the CML proposes a fairly comprehensive delimitation for these two nuclei, which includes a significant number of areas that go far beyond their formal limits.
In summary, according to the information published so far and resulting from the Tourism Study in Lisbon, it seems that we are facing a positive proposal that covers a significant part of the so-called historic center of the city: the zones presumably more attractive to the tourist and those that are, in fact, more saturated with Local Accommodation.
The map analysis, which delimits only the 56 districts of Lisbon where the users of LA represent at least 20% of the number of residents, shows the relevance of the phenomenon in both extent and intensity.
