The European Parliament approved in the morning of this Thursday (5th) the implementation of a new entry system in Europe. Thereby, travelers from Brazil and more than 61 countries that are exempt from visas for the region will need prior authorization to visit the continent from 2021. The document, which should be requested online, will be valid for three years and a cost of €7 ($31.80).

The creation of the so-called Etias (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is similar to the one in force in the US for visa-free countries and had already been agreed between parliamentarians in April, but lacked plenary approval and voting on regulations. (...)

 "Today, border guards have limited information and time to make decisions about [foreign travelers] entry. They do not have prior information on visa-free travelers, especially on land borders. With Etias, the guards will benefit from a broader analysis of security and risk of migration," he said. (...)

Once validated, travelers will need to fill out an online form and pay the processing fee. Children under 18 years and over 70 are exempt from the charge. In case of approval, a document will be sent by email. (...)

According to the European Parliament, the analysis and processing of responses will be automated, and travelers should take little time to receive answers. (...)
