Portugal will count this summer with a total of 352 Blue Flag beaches, 20 more than last year, of which 18 are coastal beaches and two are fluvial. The Algarve continues to be the region where the greatest number of beaches boasts this distinction.
Among the 352 beaches awarded the Blue Flag, 317 are coastal and 35 are fluvial. The Algarve, with 88 coastal beaches (89 in 2018), continues to be the region of the country with more blue flags, although the beach of Pintadinho, in the municipality of Lagoa (district of Faro), have missed this year this distinction.
