The President of the Republic promulgated the diploma that creates the regime of the Societies of Investment and Real Estate Management (SIGI), commonly known as REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust), according to the note published on the page of the Presidency.
REITs (or SIGI in Portugal) are long-term, stock exchange real estate investment vehicles created in the United States of America and replicated in several other countries. In Spain, the main SOCIMI (Sociedades Anónimas Cotizadas de Inversion Imobiliária) have already managed to channel more than 26 billion euros of investment into this country. As a rule, REITs have a fiscal regime similar to that of Real Estate Investment Funds and a smoother regulatory regime.
