The government opened the door to the creation in Portugal of a new type of instruments to invest in the real estate sector - the so-called REIT (an acronym for "real estate investment trusts"). For the sector looking for new business opportunities, it is 'soup in honey'. For the Lisbon stock exchange, which is almost moribund with successive exits and withdrawals, it is a small balloon of oxygen. And for small and large investors looking to diversify their portfolios, an investment opportunity. In a decision that seems to appeal to all, there is however an uncertainty that will only be clarified in the medium and long term: the risk they may or may not represent in a market that is already starting to overheat.
