The Wine Region of Lisbon - which includes the denominations of origin of Alenquer, Arruda, Bucelas, Carcavelos, Colares, Encostas d'Aire (Alcobaça and Medieval of Ourém), Lourinhã, Óbidos and Torres Vedras, as well as Regional Wine Lisboa - top 10 that includes wine empires such as Beaujolais (France), the Temecula (California) or Maipo (Chile) valleys, but also, for the less knowledgeable, choices that might surprise, such as Bangkok, Thailand.
The Lisbon Wine also stresses that "Lisbon thus becomes the only capital of the world with a wine region of such size and quality as to motivate a distinction of this calibre", emphasizing that "the city's tourism will also have contributed to the inclusion" in the top 10.
