The Portuguese government and ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal signed the financial agreement for the expansion of airport capacity in the Lisbon region. This increase in capacity will translate into a conversion of part of Montijo's base into a civil airport, but also an expansion of Portela's capacity, whose works will start in the first place.
"The stabilization of the technical and financial conditions of the project allows the concessionaire to develop a set of actions that give Humberto Delgado Airport greater capacity to respond before the scheduled opening of Montijo to traffic [2022], and in particular in 2019 and 2020 "said the cabinet of Pedro Marques, Minister of Planning and Infrastructures. Among these measures is "the increase of aircraft handling and parking capacity, which constitute two of the main current conditions" of Lisbon airport. "This agreement also creates the conditions for the concessionaire to develop the previous projects for Montijo."
