The national real estate market continues to win investors from all over the world. The French are the ones that buy the most houses for Lusitanian land, with almost 5,000 properties acquired last year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). However, they are the ones who spend as little as possible on these properties, a fact that can be justified by the preference for real estate for rehabilitation.
There is a growing number of real estate properties that go to the name of international investors, as well as the value they place on the domestic market. Last year, as INE figures show, 227 thousand properties were sold, 11.5% of which were bought by non-residents in the country. A part of these (a total of one thousand) was bought for a value above the million euro mark.
The French have compared 4,929 properties in Portugal last year, more than any other nationality. They are by far the nationality that more houses buy in the country. Behind them are the British, with 2,597 bought homes and the Swiss with 1,320.
In terms of value invested in this market, the French are again leading, with a total of 546 thousand euros invested in national real estate. The British also occupy the second position of the ranking with 451 thousand euros and behind are the Brazilians with 192 thousand euros.
