The Vila Joya was chosen by the World Travel Awards as the best restaurant of high gastronomy.The restaurant, located on the cliff of Praia da Gala in the Algarve, has two Michelin stars, and has chef Dieter Koschina.
The prize was presented in December 1st, during a gala of delivery of the World Travel Awards that were delivered in Lisbon for the first time. In the ceremony, among other prizes, Portugal was elected the best destination in the world - for the second time. Also in the luxury sector, the Conrad Algarve hotel won the category of Best Luxury Leisure Resort.
The awards are the result of a vote by the general public, but especially by the votes of 200,000 professionals from the tourism industry, representing 160 countries.
The World Travel Awards were created in 1993 to distinguish 'best examples of good practice in the tourism sector on a global scale' and 'in order to stimulate the competitiveness and quality of tourism'.
