This year, the celebrations, which take place from October 26 to 28, begin in a more international spirit, since the first initiative concerns the official reception of the party of Ksar El Kebir (Alcácer Quibir) and formalization of the Twinning Agreement. The entourage will be received in the Auditorium of the Paços do Concelho Century XXI, on the 26th.
This twinning agreement "has as main objective the development of permanent links between both municipalities, leading to a deepening of the knowledge of local cultural identities in terms of traditions, customs, historical memory and heritage, the exchange of cultural and heritage activities and events and joint participation in projects of common interest," explains the Lagos Chamber.
The highlight of these celebrations will be on the 27th, a Municipal Holiday, which includes the traditional Ceremony of flags hoisting, with hymns performed by the Band of the Lacobrigense Philharmonic Society 1st May in Praça Gil Eanes, followed by the Religious Festivals of São Gonçalo de Lagos, with a pastoral mass and the procession in Honor of the Patron Saint.
On this day, entrances to the municipal museums are free. The celebrations will end on the 28th with the 8th Encounter of Children and Youth Choirs taking place in the Church of the Nuns.
