The year 2018 is dedicated to celebrating the richness and diversity of cultural heritage, both at European level and at national, regional and local level. From a set of ideas and people, the aim was to create in the Algarve a way of celebrating the European Year of Cultural Heritage together, with the challenge of CCDRAlgarve and its Europe Direct Center to develop and present a bibliographical exhibition, patent in several partner venues in the region.

Thinking about an exhibition where books are the main actors is a way to celebrate the memories and heritage of the Algarve, to validate the written word that perpetuates itself in reading each one, setting moments and stories to later remember. A joint thought between several entities from windward to leeward (museums, libraries and archives), in the validation and recognition of what are its collections.

"[...] This bibliographic exhibition, materialized in several spaces, by several partners, seeks to be representative of the region 's heritage, but also of the look of Algarve' s outstanding figures on this same heritage. Looks that run through different epochs, from prehistory to actuality and express different perspectives. More than 50 works, are events, the feeling and the reflection around the heritage of the Algarve region, frayed in words written over centuries. A tiny part of a treasure kept in books. "

In this exhibition it is possible to find the Pentateuco (facsimile in its two editions), an undeniable record of the importance of the Algarve / Faro in the reference in the world of the edition, as well as first editions, handwritten editions, more current editions, in a versatility of themes that include the built heritage, the literary, the musical and ethnographic or the individual heritage that some wanted to register.

Until October 31st, visitors will be able to go to various places of the exhibition: CCDRAlgarve, Gambelas Library of the University of Algarve, Faro Municipal Library, Faro Episcopal Seminary, Lagoa Municipal Library, Vila Real de Santo António Municipal Library and Municipal Library of São Brás de Alportel.

This bibliographic exhibition will certainly be the starting point for conversations, studies or academic investigations for the perpetuation of our heritage.
