In the blink of an eye, the population of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Paraná would disappear from Brazil. About 70 million Brazilians aged 16 or older would leave Brazil if they could, Datafolha shows.

In the survey, made all over Brazil, 43% of the adult population expressed a desire to leave the country. Among those aged 16 to 24, the percentage goes up to 62%. There are 19 million young people who would leave Brazil. (...)

Applications for Portuguese citizenship accelerated. Only in the São Paulo consulate, there were 50 thousand concessions since 2016. In the same period, there were double the number of visas for students, entrepreneurs and retirees who intend to settle in Portugal. (...)

Not only do young people want to leave, but the majority are those with higher education (56%) and in the A/B class (51%). (...)

There is indeed a climate of hopelessness. Survey by Datafolha showed that, for 32% of Brazilians, the economy will worsen; 46% believe in high unemployment.

"It creates a great anguish. If we are already in a panic, imagine the young people", says Fernandes. Enrico Aiex Oliveira, 19, one of the 12 thousand Brazilians who attend college in Portugal, intends to make a career abroad. I would like to return to Brazil one day "if there were economic stability, political reform and better health and education."

The problem, according to Comim, is that "if there is a future, it should not come so soon. And ten years may be nothing in the life of a country, but it is very much in one's life. "

In this perspective, the will to leave "is a rational attitude, of seeking a better life in a world in which it was easier to transit".
