Bank valuation on housing rose to a new high since 2008

The average value of bank valuation of housing increased to 1,220 euros per square meter (m2) in December, plus five euros than in November and a new maximum, INE reported today.

This figure represents the 21st month of consecutive increases, and a new historical high since 2008 (beginning of the series), according to statistics from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Compared with November 2018, the average appraisal value of apartments in December rose by € 7 to € 1,284 per square meter, while housing increased by € 4 to € 1,119 per square meter. In the apartments, the highest value was observed in the Algarve region (1,593 euros / m2) and the lowest in the Alentejo (1,014 euros / m2). Compared with November, the Azores had the highest increase (2.7%) and the Center the biggest decrease (-0.9%), but compared to December 2017, the Azores had the highest growth (10.8%).
