Quality of life, health system, low taxes, nature, safety and climate are the attractions of the region that is in the south of Portugal.
The Algarve region, in the south of Portugal, has been chosen in the last four years as the best place in the world for those who think about retiring. The reasons are many: quality of life, a health system that works, low taxes, nature, safety and the climate. In the Algarve, the sun shines, on average, 300 days a year.
There are over one hundred thousand retirees from various parts of the world throughout the Algarve region. Brazilians are many. Jack Soifer, for example, has lived in Albufeira for 14 years. "Almost everyone who retires wants two things: security and also a good health system. And that we have here. Even the public health system works very well, "says Jack, a retired economist.
Jack travels every year to Brazil to meet his family, but he does not think about leaving Portugal. "The Portuguese, more or less like the Brazilians, are fantastic, they are very open. It is very easy to make friends, and then, because there are many foreigners who live here, there is a great diversity of opportunities, "he says.
